SportsPulse: USA TODAY Sports’ Jarrett Bell breaks down all the story lines coming out of wild-card weekend in the NFL
The Chicago Bears didn’t wait long to find their next head coach.
Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy was named the Bears’ coach after interviewing for the position on Sunday, the team announced.
Nagy, 39, took over play calling from Andy Reid midway through this season. Kansas City became just the second team ever to have a quarterback (Alex Smith) with 4,000 yards passing, a running back (Kareem Hunt) with 1,000 yards rushing, and a wide receiver (Tyreek Hill) and tight end (Travis Kelce) with 1,000 yards receiving.
The Chiefs’ offense finished ranked fifth overall.
A former Arena Football League quarterback, he has worked under Reid for his entire NFL coaching career, serving as quarterbacks coach in Kansas City after serving as an intern, coaches’ assistant and quality control coach with the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Chiefs fell to the Tennessee Titans on Sunday in the wild-card round, leaving Nagy free to take any head coaching vacancy.
Nagy replaces John Fox, who went 14-34 in three years as the Bears’ coach.
In Chicago, he takes over an offense looking for a spark after the passing attack ranked last in the NFL under rookie quarterback Mitchell Trubisky.
