Apple Just Released A New iPhone Battery Health Feature

Apple just released iOS 11.3, which has a new beta feature that lets users check the health of their battery and make sure that their iPhones are running at peak performance.

Apple has released the highly anticipated software update for the iPhone that promises to give you greater visibility into your own health—as well as the health of what could be a failing handset battery.

Apple included this tweak after backlash in late 2017, when users complained that they noticed their phones slowing down.

Among the fresh features, this latest version of iOS brings new augmented reality capabilities, a chat function within the Messages app that will let you communicate directly with a business (e.g, Home Depot, Marriott) and—for those of you who have the iPhone X–four new “animoji” characters (lion, bear, dragon or skull).

Tap “disable” if you want your iPhone to run at peak performance, but at the cost of battery life. Just understand that your phone may shut down suddenly, or sooner than you expected, as a result.

In December, Apple admitted to something people had long suspected: It slows down iPhone performance speeds in devices with older batteries to prevent unexpected shutdowns. After customer outcry, the company lowered the price of battery replacements from $79 to $29, and promised to add an option that would allow users to toggle the slowdown “feature” on and off. A beta version of this new setting, called iPhone Battery Health, is included in today’s new version of iOS.
