We caught up with the LA-based beauty as she revealed her beauty secrets, life advice she’s received from Kim Kardashian and Naomi Campbell, as well as her favourite celebrity couples to chill with.

Q. How did you get involved with the UGG and Jeremy Scott collaboration?

A. Any time Jeremy Scott calls or texts me I’m down to do whatever it is because I know its colourful, it’s going to be fun and it’s going to stir up a bit of trouble and get people talking. I love him because he’s crazy and he’s different and he’s not afraid to just go for it. He definitely wants to put the fun into fashion, he’s been doing that for 20 years now.

Q. How would you describe your personal style?

A. I love comfortable vibes. I like dope sweat suits even if they are like on the sexier side, but still comfortable that’s always my vibe. I like sporty style, so like Aaliyah and how she used to do the crop tops and the baggier pants. I’m all about handbags, from Gucci, to Bulgari. I also love a pop of colour and I like things that are edgy and if I can play that up in a bag or a shoe then I’ll go for that.

Q. Who is your model icon?

A. Adriana Lima. She’s completely the full package, down to her personality and the way she treats everybody when she walks in the room. She’s completely gorgeous from the inside out, she’s walked every runway and been on every cover. She’s amazing. So between her and Naomi Campbell, Gisele and Cindy Crawford. I take bits and pieces from each one of them and try to learn from each one of their stories.

Q. How do you maintain your natural curls and what products do you use?

A. Moroccanoil all day. I’m obsessed with their products. They have a smoothing mask that I live by because I get so much heat and tugging at my hair. There tends to be a lot of breakage with that and not a lot of time off for my hair, so I try to get 15 mins to put a good mask in for conditioning and to lock in some good moisture. They also have curl sprays that reactivate your curls and rejuvenate them. Other than that, I try and stay away from towels. Towels are very heavy and they break your hair. I also try to avoid hairsprays. I air dry my hair for the most part but if needed, I’ll use a diffuser. And then if need be, I think we are all guilty of touching up now and then with a curling iron or a wand

Q. In your opinion, how has social media changed modelling?

A. How people are being discovered has changed. I think the internet is the way to everyone. There could be a huge designer that wants to book you across the world that would never even have seen you because you were in South Carolina, but then they happened to run across your Instagram. I feel like Instagram is a good platform for anybody whether modelling or acting. I am able to say what I want to say and I can show people who I really am. I think it’s really empowering and it pushes us to know our worth. I think that more people should use it more.

Q. How do you deal with the negative side effects of social media?

A. I delete comments. I don’t like having negative comments on there because I’ve dealt with bullying growing up. I know how to take it now but I used to be that little girl that cried about it. My main thing is watching the followers and the friends that follow me really wanting to take care of me. I feel bad when one comment is something bad and one of my followers is trying to defend me and it becomes like a row between the two. I’d rather delete it all and just stop all negativity. If there’s a way I can kill it with kindness easy and simple but its very rare that I would say something.

Q. What are your plans for the future?

A. I would like to do more acting. I am trying to go on more castings and auditions and stuff with acting and opening up those doors a bit more. I love hosting anything that’s TV personality and anything involving fashion and beauty I’m all for. My goals now are really just trying to show people who I really am. I’ve worked really hard and tried to be the girl that everyone needed me to be and I think its fun now that I can be myself and clients love it. I love that people want to book me because they think I am going to rock their stuff and they let me do my thing.

Q. Which friend would you call up for good advice?

A. It depends on the advice. If I’m getting boyfriend, or how to be a good housewife advice, I’ll call Kim and be like, ‘girl I don’t know what to do, he wants a home cooked meal’, because she is a really good cook. When it comes to fashion, I’ll call Naomi if I need walking tips or I may need to change things up a bit. Or if I just need a crazy night out, probably Lottie, she’s my partner in crime when it comes to partying. It’s really just nice to have those kind of people in your life and talk about that kind of stuff.

Q. Who is your favourite celebrity couple to chill with?

A. Kim and Kanye are fun. They are a really good time because they know how to cut it all off. People don’t think that’s what happens but we go on detox vacations where we are not on our phones. We’re like really taking time to be with our family and friends and they bring all the kids with us. But another celeb couple, and we’ve been saying this forever, Miguel and Nazanin [Mandi]. I’ve been trying to get on a double date with them but we’re literally on opposite coasts so we can never get together. Teyana [Taylor] and Iman [Shumpert], it’s always a crazy night with them. There’s always some sort of performance somewhere. Even if we just go to dinner, she will shut a room down. She’s amazing.

Q. What’s your favourite thing to do on a Saturday night?

A. Netflix and chill. I’m on like season three of House of Cards. I’m trying to catch up with my boyfriend Terrence [Jenkins], he’s up to date with everything. But seriously, I like just being at home, in bed, cuddled up with my dogs and Terrence with take out. Or if I need to get out and do something, I’ll go to Nobu for dinner and then I might go somewhere like Delilah in LA, they do this burlesque-like show. It’s really funny.
