Kulbhushan Jadhav’s mother SPOILED Pakistan’s plan to use recording of her son’s confession

New Delhi: When Pakistan gave visa only to Kulbhushan Jadhav‘s wife Chetankul, India insisted that the Indian national’s mother, Avanti, should also be allowed to visit him.

India’s insistence worked in its favour when the 70-year-old woman spoiled Pakistan’s nefarious plan

According to The Times of India, when Jadhav met his mother and wife after more than 21 months of captivity in Pakistan, he strangely greeted the two women by “confessing” he was an Indian spy – the charge levelled by Pakistan but contested by India. He also told them that he had engineered various terror attacks.

Avanti, however, could not believe the first words uttered by her son from across a glass wall. She angrily interrupted him: “But why are you saying all this? You were doing business in Iran from where you were abducted. You must tell the truth.”

The daily mentioned sources as saying that Pakistanis had planned to use the recording of Jadhav’s remarks, which were a part of the script handed to him by Pakistan Army and ISI, as a “confession” to his wife and mother. Pakistan would have then used this “confession” against India. However, Avanti Jadhav’s presence of mind and courage of speaking out spoiled Pakistan’s plans.

Despite the concern that Pakistan could still leak a doctored version of Jadhav’s conversation with Avanti and Chetankul, the Indian side is relieved that Avanti’s interruption would push Islamabad to do a “scissors-and-paste” job.

The Pakistan Foreign Office on Wednesday said the shoes of alleged Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav’s wife were confiscated as a “metallic substance” had been detected in them after India accused Islamabad of not returning her shoes after the meeting held here on Monday.

On Wednesday, the Pakistan Foreign Office rejected the Indian allegations that the meeting was conducted in an “intimidating” atmosphere as “baseless and twisted”.

“There was something in the shoe. It is being investigated. We gave her a pair of replacement shoes. All her jewellery etc were returned after the meeting,” Foreign Office spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal said.

India, in a strong statement, accused Pakistani authorities of making the mother and wife of the death row prisoner remove their bindi, mangalsutraand bangles ahead of the meeting.

“For some inexplicable reason, despite her repeated requests, the shoes of the wife of Shri Jadhav were not returned to her after the meeting,” India said on Tuesday, and warned, “We would caution against any mischievous intent in this regard”.

“The mother of Shri Jadhav was prevented from talking in their mother tongue, although this was clearly the natural medium of communication. She was repeatedly interrupted while doing so and eventually prevented from proceeding further in this regard,” the ministry said.
